This is a technique I’ve adopted from Kevin Dart and Jeff Haynie, both wonderful Artists and friends. I wanted to try something completely new. I didn’t want to rely on layers in Photoshop this time. I used Photoshop but I primarily used one canvas to paint on. My goal was to let loose and just go with the flow. Let the drawing become what it wants to be, rather then restricting your self to the original drawing. Here is a quick layout of how I worked in black & white then on to a color comp.
Working with black & white values first to establish tones is the most important element before moving on to color. That is the method that works for me. However, artists better familiar with color theory can jump into color from the get go. Here is the final version.
Enjoy!
